why is a pasword required to access vista computers on my home network?
passwords are normally required to access any computer on the network irrespective of weather it is Vista, XP or Windows 2000. It stops other people from accessing your data without you permission.
With Vista set up the sharing and passwords, then allow other users to Share your files or drive and it should be no different from accessing files across an XP network.
